PROJECT HOPE

Imagine you are eleven years old and are born with a physical deformity. You have no family and live in a country with very limited medical facilities and personnel. Imagine you are confined to an orphanage in a remote village in Russia with little or no contact with the outside world. As you grow and mature, the stark reality of your hopeless situation becomes more evident. Without help, you will always be dependent upon others for your essential daily needs and activities, with little or no hope of ever supporting yourself or a family.

But what if there were ... HOPE?

PROJECT HOPE - An Outreach to
Physically Disabled Orphans

The Hope Program seeks to share hope with disabled Russian orphans through providing medical treatment to open the door to share the Gospel. Currently, we have two boys here in Greenville for medical treatment with the Shriners Hospital.

  HISTORY   THE PLAN

While traveling to Russia for our own adoption, Dean Hesselgrave, prosthetist/orthotist and his wife, Cindy wanted to tour the disabled children's orphanage to see if there was something we could do for them. Dean evaluated 40 of the 82 children there and four were identified as good candidates for prosthetics. The first phase of Hope began in 2003 when those four children came to Greenville for medical treatment.

In 2005, Hope Phase 2 brought two children to Greenville and two to Dallas Scottish Rite Hospital for medical treatment.

In January 2007, two boys were brought to Greenville, SC as part of the Hope Program – Phase 3. The Shriners Hospital of Greenville graciously provided surgery and rehabilitation for the boys. North Hills Community Church in Taylors, SC provided host families for the boys.

With help from supporters, churches and other organizations IGAO can offer these children prosthetics, soft tissue surgery with prosthetics, and a more complex surgery that involves orthopedic surgery with prosthetics. As facilities, doctors, medical supplies, host families and sponsors are secured, small groups of

children will be scheduled to come for treatment. Meeting medical needs opens the door to meeting spiritual needs which is our ultimate hope that can only come from the Lord Himself! We want to send every child back to Russia not only functioning physically to their best ability, but with the hope of the Gospel and their own copy of the Bible.

What a wonderful opportunity we have been given to make a difference in the lives of these precious children.

The majority of the medical expenses are furnished pro bono, but sponsors are needed to provide money for travel expenses. IGAO also needs host families for each child while they are in America receiving medical attention.

Will you prayerfully consider helping one of these children by hosting them or donating funds to help with travel expenses? The cost associated with each child is at least $1,600 per child, but your tax-deductible gift of any amount is helpful and greatly appreciated.
